A Few Words About

Bit Per Second was born in 2009 by coincidence.

Some day three guys who knew each other mostly by coincidental appearances happened to chat about music, only to learn that all of them are musicians...

The first said "I play guitar, sometimes drums, but by education I am a violinist".

The second said "I play mostly guitars, but if needed I can play piano and bass too".

The third said "I am a pianist by education and craft, but I can program things to play for us".

And that was the beginning.

First we played two guitars, keyboards and sequenced drums and bass. There was some fun in it, but soon we discovered that adding a violin makes our sound way richer.

So, the violin, the guitar, the keyboards and the machines made the first official incarnation of BPS. As such we even had a gig during Polish Festival in Montreal, 2014, but, to be honest, it did not go too well. The acoustic setup wasn't too good, so we even did not hear ourselves well.

Some time later we found a bassist, a real, human bass player and our first "BPS Friend". Tomek (Tomasz) is a professional bass player with long track of playing bass with several formations, both rock and jazz. He brought to BPS not only his musicianship, but also the first level of freedom: the sequenced, tiring and boring bass was finally gone. We began the real jamming, with almost unlimited freedom for improvisation. We still used sequenced drums, but that was, as the saying goes, peanuts. After a year of cooperation Tomek quit BPS to pursue his professional career in engineering domain.

We were back to "machines", until one day Marian came and said "I bough myself a new violin". "Wow", said we, waiting for him to produce at least a Stradivarius, but then he proudly showed us his first, 5-string bass. "Wow more", said we again and soon began jamming. Being a violinist Marian proved to be a natural on a bass, no matter 5- or 4-string, fretted or fretless. A few jams made "machines" not necessary anymore, BPS became a trio that has no need for drums. We have got Marian...

But we also have friends. One of them is another "BPS Friend", the musician with whom Witold played in his first serious jazz group,"Teuch", 40-something years ago. Mietek (MieczysÅ‚aw) is known for bringing to a group jamming the unmistakable spice of blues, the freshness of unusual jazz harmonies and musical jokes.  It can be heard in pieces recorded for new Syrytczyk/Suryn/Botman release, "34 Dance St."

So, Welcome To BPS...
